The Hostless – 2017 & More

”The Hostless” is a piece developed in 2017, which does not take part into my official portfolio. People have asked Why pieces such ”The Hostless”, ”Your Dreams” and ”Predation Laws” aren’t there and pieces that aren’t that impressive are, such as ”Deer and it’s beast” and ”Universe Geist”. Naturally, there is a personal explanation for those choices, with I have been thinking that is important to highlight, especially with the participation of the pieces ”Universe Geist” and ”Körper Alone” in the auction of ”Tableau Arts & Leilões” in São Paulo – Sp (March/April Edition), and the sold of the piece ”Deer and it’s beast” to a particular collection, differently of the pieces of the series ”Afigurations of Time” which aren’t currently up for sale individually.

”The Hostless” is a canvas composed by eight characters:

The hostless – The character connecting you which the canvas interior, like an invitation to the wildness of human-social habitat.

Blue Macaw (Anodorhynchus hyacinthinus). A typical South-American species, talking about the hostless (that is inviting you/us) to her friend, partner, Jucurutu.

Jucurutu (Bubo virginianus). A typical American (Continent. ”America” means the American continent, and this note exists to avoid wrong interpretation of ”A typical American” meaning ”Typical from North-America”, which is a global ordinary mistake from an old world. Such semantic issue may be perceived xenophobic and racist to those whose ”apparently outside” the use of the term ”American”, expressing so a cultural behaviour that emphasizes inequality between Americans, with includes, north-Americans, central-Americans and south-Americans. Naturally, there is a difference between Latin America and North America, but is wrongly and equivocate to say that there is a difference between Latin America and America [when people assume that it means North America]. This is just a point that I would like to share once such a theme has been, indeed, the reason for many discussions living abroad.) owl species, that is observing her (The hostless) severely.

Greater Kudu (Tragelaphus strepsiceros). The lady turned back in direction of the door (last layer) of the canvas, a continuous corridor for the canvas context.

Brown-throated sloth (Bradypus variegatus). Once again, a species found mostly in south-America, serving animals.

Red Fox (Vulpes vulpes). The red fox got a singular look, quite lost when compared with the other characters: she isn’t looking ahead, but neither to those whose surrounding her. She’s not there but takes part in the event. She isn’t connected with the Lynx,

Siberian Lynx (Lynx lynx wrangeli) – That is looking askance to the hostless.

Tatuaçu (Priodontes maximus) – And finally, closest of the hostless, we found the armadillo Tatuaçu trying to make contact, the only one sharing a glass of wine.

In closing, there is a history going on in this canvas, there are critics and paradox. Both about humanity’s behaviour over nature, and the social world judging the female figure, isolated from her original context, looking ahead, to a distant future where she may fit better, safe and sound.

So if there are research and a context to this piece, why it isn’t on the selected pieces to the presented portfolio? Because this piece does not correspond to any philosophical field that goes through all the pieces that are part of my portfolio. When we’re building our portfolio, even mear emergent artist like me must be careful to create a continuous path that highlights the DNA of your work, that always been for me, theoretical background in philosophy even for the interdisciplinary pieces. The second reason is, that after this canvas being publically presented, a writer wanted the characters to compose a graphic novel that may be available in two or three years, a graphic novel following the dark place of existential philosophy, moralism, political ethics, technology, information and contemporary communication issues. Maybe this year I will finally dedicate a part of this website to present illustration works that I have been working on, developed during 2015 till the present, such as the originals ”Vintage Lovers”, characters created in 2016, published by Jevy Studios.

”Your Dreams” and ”Predation Laws” aren’t the same case; they were developed under a philosophical flesh of meditation and a priori writing, also completed by botanic research. But, the portfolio says ”Essentials”. They are the two pieces that precede the ”Timeless into flesh”, that is the ”result” of the research on my Schopenhauer’s phase. Now, ”Universe Geist” even though the 2016 version isn’t impressive or even great theoretical work, was the real beginning of the research on perception using the relation between object, subject metaphorically developed into astronomical representations. ”Universe Geist” and ”Körper Alone” was the real dive into phenomenological studies, onto purely a transcendental philosophy superficially studied during the years of 2015-2016 after a nihilist phase, evident fact when we’re analysing pieces such ”Deer and its beast” from 2016, recently sold to a private collection.

”Universe Geist” and ”Körper Alone” were part of the log of the first tree that I ate the apples of my creative process. That’s why I choose both canvas to be in auction during in the same catalog; once they are part of the same series, of the same primary philosophical investigation of 2016. And moreover, both pieces were the first artworks of mine to take part in a collective exhibition, ”Arte 16”, in Bauru, São Paulo, Brazil.

Did you know that in the piece ”Körper Alone” the represented roses are, specifically, the species ” Henry Nevard”, introduced on the 1920s?
